Questioning basic Flat Earth vs. Globe issues

The first comments one generally hears when ‘flat earth’ is mentioned include ‘what we’ve all been taught’ such as: “Ships sail over the horizon!” and snickers about ‘falling off the edge’ or “Gravity proves globe!”… When you think about it, we only need the theory of gravity if we’re on a globe. And if the horizon and circumnavigation don’t ‘prove the globe’, if the evidence is not rock-solid, then it is wise to question the foundation, merits and history of ‘the globe as we know it’.

The Horizon

“Ships sail over the horizon!” is one of the first globe-facts we’re taught. Yet the ‘zoom’ function on today’s cell phones can bring ships back into view, far beyond ‘the horizon’ our eyes saw. And the horizon stays eye-level even viewing it from a plane.

I heard “we see further over the horizon from the ship’s crow’s nest” thereby proving curvature, so I did a simple experiment: I put my nose on the floor ‘and looked around’. I couldn’t see much. I then went up a foot off the floor before finally standing up. I could ‘see’ much more of the floor, and yet “it’s not curved!” The ‘crow’s nest argument’ fails.

When I first started looking into flat earth, I wanted to buy a TV antenna with the longest range possible. “Line of sight” – IF there were no major buildings, trees, or hills between my antenna and the station desired, 60-100 miles wasn’t impossible. They never mentioned ‘the earth’s curve’ blocking the signal. But they did call it ‘line of sight’.

Circumnavigation

Circumnavigation is used as proof we’re on a globe – we’ve sailed around it, end of debate. Except one can run around a flat circle as easily as around a ball; picture an ant traveling around the edge of a garbage can lid and another ant around a basketball. The ants can’t prove the shape by traveling in a circle, and both will return to their starting point.

N/S/E/W – we have 4 directions but only 2 poles. One can travel eastward forever if they choose (or until they die) – it’s simply a matter of ‘traveling right when facing north’. And one travels ‘left’ when going west, much like dancing around a Maypole. On the globe model, once you cross the North Pole, you must be traveling south. If the north pole is the center, which all compasses point to, it does not prove ‘south’ is necessarily a pole; any point equal distant from the north pole could be considered ‘south’. (Picture a circular pool with north in the middle; one could swim to any side and back: “Yep, went to the south pole!”) Think about it.

Gravity or Up & Down

“Gravity means ‘things fall down'” and we learned this early on – Newton’s Apple leading to attraction between material bodies.

Except Nikola Tesla said, quote, “A good example for such an interaction becomes apparent in gravitation, which should rather be named universal compression. I think the material bodies do not gravitate between each other bit it is the ether that makes one material body to press to another. We wrongly call this phenomena gravitation.”

Density, buoyancy and surface tension can account for much ‘up and down’ motions without the need for gravity. A flat sheet of paper will drift to the floor, but tightly crumbled it falls faster; one of them you can toss into the air, and all schoolkids know this! Surface tension? – Paper airplane. Same paper, same weight, same gravitational pull – what changed?
