Examining Claims of “NASA and Space”
NASA: National Aeronautics and Space Act – created in 1958 by President Eisenhower. It’s worth noting a quote from his farewell address to all Americans: “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.” (bold added) Just a thought, but isn’t NASA exactly a military-industrial complex?
What was the purpose of forming NASA, what did it stem from in prior years, and who was controlling it? Since it led to the 1969 moon landing, researching the decades before and after this remarkable achievement will provide a fuller history of Space Exploration and related topics – such as vacuums and pressure. Shown below is a demonstration of creating a low-pressure vacuum in our ‘average’ atmospheric pressure around 14 pounds per square inch… ‘234,000 miles through a vacuum to the moon?’ I know, I have trust issues – along with healthy skepticism and a dose of common sense.
“The Space Station flies at an average altitude of 248 miles above Earth. It circles the globe every 90 minutes at a speed of about 17,500 mph. In one day, the station travels about the distance it would take to go from the Earth to the moon and back.” – from International Space Station: Facts, History & Tracking on space.com site. Other fun facts, it’s about the size of a football field – I am curious what kind of lights they have so we can see it! Especially when I learned bullets average speed is 1700 mph, 10 times slower than ISS. It’s almost unbelievable that we can see this speed and distance, but – ‘the experts said so!’ For curious minds, sound travels about 760 mph through earth’s atmosphere; I heard there was a 5-second lag in conversation, but I know that’s not true because “two guys played guitars in sync, one on ISS and the other on earth, and they recorded it in real-time.”
Then I heard Apollo 8 actually read from Genesis while circling the moon… oh, the irony! Genesis account has the earth formed first, with a ‘firmament’, before the sun and moon are created for days and seasons. It was also Christmas Day, so… almost seems devious if you think about it too much.

Suits, Space and Pressure
Aside from trying to understand how the atmosphere on a spinning ball coexists next to ‘the vacuum of space’ (“Gravity! – a little bit on Newton’s discoveries) and how ‘rocket thrust’ pushes against nothing in a vacuum, there’s questions on how well space suits would actually function. The video series below answered many questions for me; I watched them more than once to grasp details to research further from other sources. Please note, YouTube can delete videos or channels ‘whenever the whim takes them’ and these will become broken links if this occurs.
